 2020/2021 SUBSCRIPTION BUSING DEADLINE JUNE 12, 2020

Due to the unprecedented times our community is facing with the Covid-19 outbreak, the Millburn Public Schools will open the Subscription Busing Registration through CommunityPass on May 1st as a survey of interest for the 2020-2021 school year.

If you qualify for mandated busing, you do not need to apply. Your child is automatically placed on a bus. (If you have questions about your mileage, please contact the transportation department at busing@millburn.org or thomas.lauton@millburn.org.)

As we await guidance from the NJ DOE and the Office of the Governor regarding the reopening of schools, the Millburn Transportation Department will collect the registration data under the assumption that schools will open on time.

Please register now if you plan to subscribe to have any of your children take a bus to school next year.  We need to have a count of students in order to plan for the subscription busing program for the upcoming school year.

We will not be asking for payments at the time of registration.  The Transportation Department will send payment information to all registered families after the June 12th deadline.

Subscription Busing: Students who do not qualify for mandated transportation, i.e., grades K-8 who live less than 2 miles from school or grades 9-12 who live less than 2.5 miles from school, can apply for subscription busing. The transportation department will be happy to help you determine whether you qualify by mileage. The transportation department can be reached at busing@millburn.org or thomas.lauton@millburn.org

Past participation does not guarantee a seat and you must follow the attached directions to subscribe for the 2020/2021 school year. Students will be scheduled for busing on a first-come/first-serve basis. If there are no further seats available, you will be notified and be put onto the waitlist. Please be aware that for safety reasons only items that fit easily onto a student's lap will be permitted onto the bus.

Fees: If you are interested in subscription busing beginning in September, the fee for the 2020/2021 school year will be $775.00 per student and is non- refundable. There is a family cap of $1550.00. The Millburn Board of Education will be offering a two-payment option for the 2020-2021 school year only.

Online Registration: All applications must be submitted online through CommunityPass. If you are interested in having transportation provided on a fee basis, please use the directions found on the website to submit your application by the deadline of Friday, June 12, 2020

Payment: Once the district has determined the amount of interest in subscription busing for the coming school year, payment notices will be sent to all who registered. Payments may be made online or by check. The fees may be paid at once or in a split payment with dates to be determined.  If you prefer to pay by check after you have submitted the online application through CommunityPass, checks should be made payable to “Millburn Township Board of Education” and mailed to the Education Center using the address listed above, once payment deadlines have been established.

Waivers: If you are applying for a fee waiver, you must still register online through CommunityPass. Once you have registered, please fill out the waiver form and provide all required documentation to the Business Office before June 12, 2020. The waiver of the $775 per student charge is available for families who meet the qualifying income level according to the guidelines set by the State of New Jersey for free and reduced lunch. Please do not submit a waiver application if paying by credit card or check, this is only for waivers. A waiver application received after June 12, 2020 will be placed on the waitlist in the order it was received, along with non-waiver applications also filed after June 12, 2020.

Bus Passes will be mailed to families in mid-August. Please note that no changes to bus routes will be considered during the first 2 full weeks of school. This is to assist the drivers in learning the current routes without interruption.
