Chess Team Champions

It was a very competitive league with close games and the Washington School team went 5-1 in league matches and 3-0 in the playoffs. The Washington School Chess team was formed in September 2018 through a selection tournament conducted in which over 30 children competed for a spot on the team. The members of the chess team this year are: Vedh Vinayak, Rusheel Mishra, Abdur Ismail, Nicky Wang, Albert Wu, Ayan Dalmia, Andres Herscovici, Seth Eilenberg, Ishaan Satish, Ella Culligan, Alexander Hrung, Kunal Arora, Ishaan Talwar, Aryan Grover, Siddharaj Gangwal. While many of the team members had previously been part of the chess teams at their respective Elementary schools and even played against each other, this experience brought them together as a team under Coach David Lazarus who guided them in a weekly chess club meet where they competed amongst each other in friendly matches and learned new tactics to hone their skills.
